Who We Are
In 1987, the North Shore Tribal Council (NSTC) initiated by resolution, a project involving the Native Child Welfare Prevention Workers of their respective First Nations to plan how North Shore First Nations could build on existing systems of community care for children and their families.
The Child and Family Services Planning committee recommended to the council of Chiefs that a new tribal agency be created for child and family prevention services that would be mandated and controlled collectively by the First Nations that each of the Chiefs represented as a first step to addressing the child welfare needs. The Chiefs passed a second resolution in May 1988, mandating the committee to incorporate and continue the planning process in conjunction with the communities.
Nog Da Win Da Min Family and Community Services was incorporated in August 1990 and each of the North Shore First Nations’ Chiefs and Councils passed a resolution designating Nog Da Win Da Min as their “Indian Child and Family Service” authority pursuant to section 194 of the “Child and Family Services Act.”
